Barry N. Malzberg has published more than 500 short stories in a wide range of magazines, books, and best-of-the-year anthologies during the past six decades. Many of those stories have appeared in his assorted collections – but not all of them. “Collecting Myself: The Uncollected Stories of Barry N. Malzberg” goes a long way towards filling that gap. Here are thirty-five beautifully crafted stories that range across a broad spectrum of Malzbergian concepts, themes, memes, obsessions, and narrative approaches. Nobody can tell a story like Barry N. Malzberg. Read these rediscovered gems and find out for yourself.

Review

“The tales Barry tells are tales of crushed dreams and choked ambitions, but they are also tales of exciting intellectual adventures, friendships both literary and personal, and a fellowship of minds devoted to human progress, or at least to warning humanity away from its most base impulses and foibles.” --Andrew Fox, “My Science Fiction Rabbi”

“Malzberg's writing is unparalleled in its intensity and in its apocalyptic sensibility... he is a master of black humour, and is one of the few writers to have used sf's vocabulary of ideas extensively as apparatus in psychological landscapes, dramatizing relationships between the human mind and its social environment in an sf theatre of the absurd.” --The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction

"Malzberg makes persuasively clear that the best of science fiction should be valued as literature and nothing else." --Washington Post Book World
